What is Civic DataDog?
Civic DataDog is a static, public-interest transparency portal that follows the money in Minnesota. The site aggregates, documents, and explains Minnesota state government spending using official public data from the State of Minnesota and the federal government.
All pages are pre-generated HTML — no JavaScript frameworks, no dashboards, no tracking. Data is compiled offline from CSV exports and official tables, then published as readable static tables for public inquiry.
Why Minnesota Spending Transparency Matters
Minnesota’s budget decisions shape schools, healthcare, transportation, and local services across the state. Clear, accessible spending data helps residents, journalists, researchers, and public officials see how public dollars move through agencies, vendors, and programs.
By relying on official records from TransparencyMN (SWIFT), Minnesota Management & Budget, the Office of the State Auditor, and USAspending.gov, Civic DataDog provides a neutral, link-rich view of where the money goes.
Minnesota State Spending Overview
This site is designed to host static tables derived from CSV exports of official Minnesota data. A high-level overview of Minnesota spending — including total state expenditures, general fund spending, federal funds to Minnesota, and audited local government spending — is organized on the Minnesota State Spending Overview page.
Example totals and table structures are provided as placeholders until full CSV-to-HTML exports are generated. For legal or audited figures, always refer to the primary sources listed on the Sources page.
